- kerfslit or cut made by a saw. Space created by a saw cut (the width of the chain or blade).
- kerf cutscuts made to prevent fiber tearing from a branch or trunk section being removed.
- key performance indicators (KPI)measureable objectives to assess performance and progress toward goals.
- key pestorganism that is frequently encountered in landscapes and predictably causes injury to plants.
- key plant1) plant species that has a high incidence of pest problems due to inherent susceptibility or common mismanagement. 2) plant specimen that has significant value in a landscape.
- kickbacksudden. sometimes violent and uncontrolled. backward or upward movement of a chain saw.
- kickback quadrantupper quadrant of the tip of a chain saw bar.
- kilonewton (kN)unit of force. Amount of force required to move 1.000 kg a single meter in a single second (equals 224.8 pounds force).
- kilovolt (k V)1 .000 volts. Unit used for the measurement of electrical force.

- knot1) any of various fastenings formed by looping and tying a rope (or cord) upon itself or to another rope or to another object. 2) imbedded remnant of a branch in a tree or cut timber. often harder than surrounding wood.
- knot tenderin climbing. a device or knot used to assist in advancing the climbing hitch and to control the entry of line into the hitch.
- knotless systemrigging system in which loop slings and connecting links are used to attach branches or wood sections to the lowering line.
